Last year I write a blog post all about ways to stay active as a family. It was actually kind of a big hit! I though why not revamp it and do it again this year?!

Full disclosure, even though I may be dressed like an athlete, I am in no way shape or form one. I’m sharing ways our family puts down the iPads, gets off of our booties, and move!

I am sure a lot of moms out there can relate to my realistic family active and outdoor time 🙂

5 Ways to Be Active with your Family:

– We Walk To and From School:

(No judging if you’ve seen me in the pick up line, it has been so rainy this season!) Sounds really simple and it is! If you don’t live close enough to walk, park a block away, and walk the rest of the way. Not only is this a super easy way to be active with your kids twice a day, but it literally is the best time to chat with them! There are no distractions, and it is the same thing each day. Best info, and talks ever to and from school.

– Schedule Outdoor Play Time Each Day.

Make this a routine. Yes zoning out at your phone is so fun, and easy, but so is going outside for 30-45 minutes everyday! Each day when they boys come home from school, it’s: snack, homework, outside play time, screen time, dinner, bath, bed. They know that it never changes, and learn to love their time playing outside. I go out there with them and lay a blanket out for me and Nina to sit on. Most days some neighborhood kids come over to play, other days it is me playing tag with them.

-Take Advantage of Your Current Phase in Life.

I could get into a negative cycle of how I don’t have time to go to the gym everyday because I have a baby and no one to watch her while I go. But I’m choosing instead to play this phase to our advantage. We like to hold dance offs for Nina to see who can make her laugh the most! We’ll spend forever jumping around and taking turns dancing until we’re out of breath to win the biggest giggle from her. Pretty sure I won’t be able to get the boys to play this when they’re 16.

– Look Up Botanical Gardens Near You.

Sounds strange, but it’s an outdoor place that is free where your kids can run full speed, be loud, and you can stroll around taking in all the pretty plants, and flowers. If you’re lucky you may even get one kid that will want to learn about a specific plant. Or one that falls into the pond, and then it’s a swimming day too!

Mentioned this one in my last post, but still one of our favorites.  Just like the classic game but with jumping jacks, push ups, and running in place…and your random booty shakes to make it extra silly.
