Hope everyone is having a great week! The sun is finally beginning to peak out from the clouds, and we are so ready for some warmer weather around here.
One of the more commonly asked style tips I get is how to mix and match prints. While I do not consider myself an expert at all, I do love a good print mix and do love pattern play! When you mix and match prints, it totally ups your style game, and elevates your look! The secret is, it really isn’t that difficult to do!
Today I am Sharing my Top 3 Tips to Mix and Match Prints:
Tip #1 to Mix and Match Prints: Pick One Main Color
Before you go all nuts with different prints, decide on one main color. In my above look, that color is red. I am wearing red in my skirt, my long sleeve tee has red on it, and even my bag has a tad. After that, add in secondary colors. I typically do more neutral tones, but you can still do a brighter color as long as it is a complimentary color.
Tip #2 to Mix and Match Prints: Make Sure your Prints Vary in Size.
From the teeny dots on my skirt, the print on my tights, and the leopard on my jacket, all of these prints are different in scale. This helps breaks up the look, and in a weird way makes it flow so much better. For example if you were to pair a floral skirt with a striped top, it would balance so much better if the floral skirt print was large, and the striped top were thin (or vice versa).
Tip #3 to Mix and Match Prints: Layers!
To polish off your mix and match print look, don’t forget to layer your pieces. This can be as simple as adding that houndstooth blazer, or pulling on those printed tights. In this look I layered with a faux fur leopard bomber, and Gucci Tights.
