SHOP THESE BEACH LOOKS:
Last weekend in May and you know that means, it’s officially summer! Even if we have June Gloom here for like 6 weeks…I don’t care it IS summer!
Thought it would be fun to share with you our Summer Bucket List of all the fun we are going to try and squeeze into this short season before school begins again. A lot of these are great of Orange County locals looking for summer ideas for kids!
Summer Bucket List: Best Things to Do in Orange County
Star Wars Galaxy Edge at Disneyland:
Yeah, it is no surprise that we will end up at Disneyland this summer. However, Star Wars Galaxy Edge opens at the end of May, and the boys are big Star Wars fans! While I for sure plan on waiting out the crowds as much as possible, we do plan on visiting it at least once before they head back to school in the fall.
We do this year round, but it is even more fun in the summertime! We love to ride the Balboa ferry to the Balboa Fun Zone. We stroll around, play some arcade games, maybe ride the ferris wheel all of that good stuff. We always end the adventure by walking to the end of the pier and eating Ruby’s along with a shake!
Visit A Splash Pad:
It is weird, but splash pads aren’t too common here! Well at least free ones. We love the free splash pad at the Crown Valley Community Park in Laguna Niguel.
Ride the Train:
We have never done this, but this summer it is happening! There are several train stations all through out Orange County and tickets are cheap. So we are going to ride it as a family down to San Diego for the day. (If that goes well we may ride it again into LA for the day!)
Visit the Zoo:
This is not my favorite, zoos are stinky…but kids like it, and if I have to go we always pick the OC Zoo at Irvine Park! It is smaller, and you are able to let your kids run free with out them getting lost. Often times zoo keepers will have some of the smaller animals out for you to get close up to. Plus, it only costs like $3
Go to the Water Park:
We will probably be hitting up Buccaneer’s Cover at Boomer’s in Irvine. It is on the smaller side so it is more manageable for me to just sit and watch rather than me swim, and go down the slides with them.
We love to come here just to swim in the water, but this year it is on our summer bucket list to visit the inflatable water obstacle course! I finally feel like the boys are old enough to enjoy it.
Luv 2 Play:
This is a new indoor play ground that recently opened in Irvine. We haven’t been there yet so I can’t personally vouch for it, but it looks fun! And will be nice to do on a hot day when we went to stay inside.
Laguna Beach Trolly:
Free trolly rides all up and down Laguna. We plan on riding it for fun, to get ice cream, and from the car to the beach.
Laguna Beach Saw Dust Festival:
June 28-Sept 1 and I hope we go sooner than later because it can get HOT. We love to just walk around and take in all of the art. It is kid friendly, and in the past there has always been kid art stations (pottery, painting etc).
Visit the Ocean Institute in Dana Point:
During the week they have parent and kids classes, and on weekends they have different types of tours. We always just kind of show up last minute and walk around. Our kids always love learning about all of the marine life that its right in our backyard, seeing the pirate ships, and then exploring the tide pools afterwards.
Visit one of the Adventure Playgrounds, there are two, one in Irvine and one in Huntington Beach. Kids can build, dig, run free, get dirty, play in tree houses, and just get out all of their wiggles.
Medieval Times Dinner Theater:
Take the boys on a date night to Medieval Times dinner theater! You eat with your hands, watch jousting, and tournaments with knights! Most of the time you can find deals on groupon too.
Eat breakfast down at Crystal Cove beach, then play in the sun and waves! After wards hike up to Ruby’s shake shack for a treat.
Long Beach Aquarium:
Visit the Aquarium and spend the day up in Long Beach grabbing dinner afterwards at Bubba Gumps (the boys fav)
