One of the perks, if not the biggest perk, of going on our Disney Cruise was getting to spend the day at Castaway Cay! Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island located in the Bahamas. It is exclusive to the Disney Cruise Line, and only accessible to those who cruise (keep in mind that not all Disney Cruises go there, obviously a European Cruise wouldn’t port there). Keep scrolling down for all our favorite Castaway Cay Activities!
There is a TON to do and see at Castaway Cay – it is actually a much bigger island than I was expecting! The Disney Dream Cruise Ship pulled up to Port at Castaway Cay on our last day at about 7am. Typically you have about 9am-4:30pm to explore Castaway Cay! But easily could have spent two full days here!
When you exit the ship, there are coolers being sold with waters. We like to buy one, the reusable cooler tote makes a fab souvenir and of course you’ll drink the waters throughout the day. You’ll then walk by some cute photo opp spots, some characters for meet and greets, and then towards the tram station.
The tram has two beach stops, but they are pretty similar and just depends where you’d like to get off. The first stop is where the boat rentals are, the first water playground (thats maybe for younger kids). The second stop is closer to the adult only beach, near a different water park, and closer to snorkeling. Each stop has the same shops, same BBQ lunch, and same food options. And don’t worry-if you get off at the wrong place. We got off at the first one and then walked along the path a ways and it was totally fine and not that far. Another added bonus was that when you get off the tram, there are strollers, wagons etc waiting for your use-so no need to lug your own around!
Castaway Cay really is so dreamy and perfect! It is very Disney, meaning that everything is clean, safe, every detail is thought of, and so incredibly fun! I am planning on booking another Disney Cruise just to go back to Castaway Cay-that is how amazing it is.
The Best Castaway Cay Activities for your Family:
Cookie’s BBQ and Cookie’s Too BBQ:
Lunch Buffet included with your trip. Two locations on Castaway Cay. Dining area has plenty of shaded and covered sitting areas, drinks, all you can eat soft serve ice cream, fruit and BBQ food! My kids loved the freedom of being able to get as much food as they’d like, and of course Nina loved the ice cream.
There are four bars throughout Castaway Cay, plus beach waiters walking about taking your orders. No need for cash or cc, all you need is your stateroom keycard. We loved the frozen drinks, and even got the kids some non-alcoholic drinks in fun Disney themed cups!
near the first tram stop you are able to rent a ton of watercraft fun: aqua tikes, parasailing, kayaking, banana boat rides, wind surfing etc!
volleyball, tetherball, soccer, and even basketball can be found throughout the sand, or just right off it.
There are three different huts (shops) that have snorkeling gear available for rent. Snorkeling is free if you bring your own gear, as long as you wear the required yellow vest which is free to use. The snorkeling lagoon is located in the family beach area between the two water parks. The snorkeling on Castaway Cay is unlike anything else! There are a number of hidden treasures (sunken submarine, hidden mickey+minnie etc), sea life, coral reefs, and so so many fish to see! Within the first two minutes my boys had already swam next to a sting ray! Highly recommend this.
My kids LIVED here all day long! This is a basically a floating water playground platform. Complete with slides, splashes, and bucket that dumps water! There are two of these, one that is more splash play and the other that has the twisty slides (pictured above).
This is perfection for toddlers or kids who aren’t quite ready to go off into the lagoon. It is a giant 2400sqft splash pad that Nina of course loved!
I wish we would have checked this out in person! Our kids were having so much fun, that we didn’t have the time to personally experience this. A lot of our friend’s did, plus there is always next time! Scuttle’s Cove is basically kids club on Castaway Cay (free of course!). It is all supervised by trained Disney counselors, we were so impressed by them! This place has everything: splash zone/wet deck, sand play zone, drinks, characters, organized activities like whale bone excavation, games, and even a luau! Perfect place to drop the kids when you head to the adult only area for some relaxation.
In Da Shade:
This is a completely shaded game pavilion for when you need a break from the sun! Located by the Castaway Family beach and has lots of games like: foosball, table tennis, basketball, etc.
Adults 18+ only beach with beach side massages, frozen drinks, Air Bar BBQ, and lots of quiet.
Bike & Nature Trail:
A great way to really take in all the beauty Castaway Cay has to offer is to either rent some bikes, or go for a hike on the nature trails! There are a few little check points and picture spots along the way too.
